Are You Hooked?

Are You Hooked?

Well, Im trying to be…Hooked on Yarn Arts that is! I come from a family of “happy hookers” but all I can muster is single and double crochet…planning to treat myself to some quiet time this Winter, hoping to learn more.

On to my projects! To prove Im committed to learning more I stitched up a Yarn Minder Bag and Creative Maker Supply Case, woot woot! Both patterns are by Sara at Sew Sweetness. That bag is huge, like there is literally 3 mega skeins of yarn inside and it still looks empty! Ill be able to keep a project and my Creative Make Case in it and more if I need to. This makes me happy…grab and go, and big enough for all the tools. Thank You Mathew for the perfect fabric! and Thank You Sara for your great patterns!

Keeping it real, that is the zip pouch that is cut out but not finished…real life is ruining all my fun this year! I know Im not alone… Have You Voted?!?! Stay Safe Folks!!!

One last question: If you are…How long have you been Hooked on Yarn Arts?

Sew Pro Stars Blog Hop

Sew Pro Stars Blog Hop

Hi Everyone! Im so happy to be participating in the Sew Pro Stars Blog Hop and there are 2 awesome giveaways at the bottom! The Sew Pro inaugural event was this past September and was for entrepreneurs looking to break into the professional world of Sewing. Sara Lawson of Sew Sweetness Patterns and Brenda Ratliff of Pink Castle Fabrics, true sewing professionals in their own rights and the fellow professionals they invited to share their experience and expertise were off the charts incredible…Pat Sloan, Tula Pink, Mimi G, Kristen Link of Sew Mama Sew,  Abbey Glassenberg of While She Naps, Craft Insustry Alliance and more!  Each shared their story of creating, knocking on doors and making the dream live.  Fan girl moments: I sat next to Pat Sloan during lunch Saturday, wheee and I carried my Tortoise Bag (Thanks Again for letting me test Sara!) made of Tula Pink Ponies, turned out it was the main print for one of her classes I attended, pinch me!!! Yaa, I’m just cool like that, ha, not really but man, I felt like a Star!

Just a few of the things I took away…

  1. Keep Knocking on Doors!
  2. There are no mistakes in creativity!
  3. Mean what you say and say what you mean!
  4. There will never be a “Perfect” time to start!
  5. It’s okay to be your loudest Cheerleader!

When I was checking in, Sara was at the table with Kim (yeah, Go Go Kim!) and as she introduced us she mentioned that I “always have a horse somewhere in my projects” so my Sew Pro inspired project had to be…Feed Sack Fun! I did what I do (test patterns, Thank You Designers!) and tested this pattern , its The Laume Clutch By Needle&Thread (&free on Craftsy!), Thanks Lauren!

14499098_201091160340439_3510623151543287808_n

I made a paper template of the main piece to mark on the feed sack where to cut for the front and back…fussy cutting, swoon. Really, it’s the Template that makes all the difference in this project and really, for all fussy cutting. With 10 horses here we go through quite a few feed sacks in a weeks time so you’ll be seeing more of these 🙂

Entry Level Sewing Machines for the Beginner Sewist

0117161517a[1]

I was so honored to host a student in my sewing room this weekend! Thank You Caitlyn, I loved helping you and am so looking forward to seeing you again in 2 weeks. Her 1st lesson, her 1st zipper pouch and a key fob too…you go girl, go!!! I’ll work on gathering the rest of the photos too and post them, we had SEW much Fun! As we were talking about what is a good 1st new machine, I started thinking about “what would I recommend for a new sewist”, hmmm. Well, with a little help from around the web and a draw from my own machine experiences (good and bad, ggg) I’ve picked 3, one is computerized and two are not but all 3 have a top/drop-in bobbins. In my honest opinion, it’s the single thing that can make or break a new sewist and so worth the extra few dollars for this feature on an entry-level machine! ok, here’s my lineup with Amazon links for more info and pricing…and all 3 are budget friendly, because you’ll need $$$ for supplies and a fabric stash too  🙂

Fall Gift Box Set

Here they come, are you ready? Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Wheeeee! I love quick to stitch handmade gifts this time of the year. When Nancy at Embroidery It asked on her blog for folks that would like to collaborate…Thanks Sew Much Nancy!!!

I chose the ITH (in the hoop) Fall Gift Boxes Set and they are perfect for fast stitching and for cuteness factor!  Stitch each box with a few supplies you probably already have on hand (felt and fabric), put a small treat or candies in the center, tie them closed with ribbon or twine  and set one by each place setting. Done and adorable! If you have time you could stand a name card in one of slits on each to use them for place cards too.

The “quick to stitch holiday gifts” seem to be becoming a theme here so watch for more over the next few days and weeks 🙂

Happy Happy Holidays!!!

Wristlet Wallet Tutorial at Whimsy Fabrics Blog

VBg Wallet2 Button Closure Outside Finished IMG_2152                r2VBg Walkin Wristlet rsneak peek4 IMG_2074
Have you seen my tutorial for the VBg Walkin’ Wristlet & Button Wallet for Whimsical Fabrics? You can find the full tutorial at Danielle’s store blog. My usual go-to wallet/wristlet is an ITH Machine Embroidery design (quick! and easy!) but when Danielle asked about a wallet I knew what I had to do, create one! So with a very basic sketch I started adding in all my favorite techniques (ie, shortcuts, lol) and Walkin’ Ribbon Wristlet & Button Wallet are born! Oh, and they weren’t ALL old techniques…Im the proud new owner of KAM Snaps and Pliers (totally rawks in ease of use!) and some Adorable Riley Blake Buttons! Pssst…Danielle has these adorable Buttons here and I hear she might be going to carry KAM Snaps in the very near future too, wink wink!

Danielle’s lovely fabric choices, Riley Blake Sidewalks for the Button Wallet and Riley Blake Chevron and Gracie Girl for the Wristlet…Love them all, Thank You!

Ok, Ill leave you with a few more photos to send you off and if you stitch one up,  please please please send me a pic and let me know how it sewed up for you 🙂

Holland Road Bag

VBg Holland Road Instagram photo

“Yes, I made this Sew Sweetness Holland Road Bag” Thank You to all the folks compliments I’ve gotten on this bag, from friends, family and strangers alike 🙂 Sara created this bag with the Beginner Sewist in mind, with basic pattern pieces, small curves, easy slip pockets, a little hardware and a button. You can easily add to this bag with advanced techniques and additional hardware too if you are a more experienced bag maker.

1210142220c          1st Bag inside

I made it even quicker by using Cotton Webbing for the handles and adding just 3 slip pockets instead of the 6 called for. I’m using mine as a tote to hold my tech/phone wallet and checkbooks so less pockets works for me…and I was running out of sewing time that day, LOL!

1st Bag

Oh that awesome Feathers cover and Print lining fabrics? It’s from the Cotton&Steel collection…and I should have bought more, swooon! Thank You Sara for the awesome bag and Thanks friends for stopping over. See ya next time!
